Meet Jon Schmeelk

I grew up in Arlington County, from preschool on what is now Langston Blvd through to Yorktown High School.  I earned my Eagle Scout rank in Troop 638 in Arlington and spent much of my youth in Scouting backpacking and exploring throughout VA, from hiking along the AT to climbing Old Rag in the rain.  After attending college at Randoph-Macon College in Ashland VA, I’ve lived here in the Arlington/Fairfax region while working in the Federal Government.

My career in the Government was as a Contracts Officer, first at the Department of Energy and more recently at the National Science Foundation in Alexandria.  As a Contracts Officer I’ve worked closely with private industry, especially businesses in Northern Virginia, to achieve cost effective successes for the American people.  I understand the challenges businesses face, with rising costs, arbitrary regulations, and impossible to predict shock waves.

I’m aiming to bring my knowledge on how the Government works to bear on the problems facing Virginia – tackling the affordability crisis while protecting Virginians and supporting honest business success.  We need leaders who know how and will work hard to champion the state and communities that I’ve called home for the last 37 years.
